Beijing, March 4: Seems like ex-Atletico players Yannick Carrasco and Nico Gaitan might already be regretting their move to Chinese Super League.

Already risking their chances of making it to their respective World Cup squads, their first day wasn’t exactly how it should have been. Dalian Yifang, recruiters of the duo, were humiliated 8-0 by Shanghai SIPG.

The newly promoted CSL side signed Carrasco, Gaitan and Jose Fonte late last month and were humbled by their counterparts Shanghai SIPG, who are propelled by Brazilians Hulk and Oscar.

Shanghai fired a total of 24 shots on a night where it was clear men against boys. Impeccable passing, great control over the ball and lethal finishing on one end and total chaos coupled with individual errors on other.

Ex- Chelsea star Oscar scored a hat-trick while Hulk grabbed a brace in that rout. China’s Wu Lei too scored a brace before Lu Wenjun completed an 8-0 humiliation.

With such massive amounts of money pouring in from CSL, players are being lured away solely due to the high-end packages. Carrasco, who is reportedly on a wage package worth £8.8million a year in China should be wary that the package comes with a price.

Another of Atletico’s forwards, Jackson Martinez was released by Guangzhou Evergrande as a €42 million flop. The Colombian striker secured his move in February 2016 and was released for free after two seasons.

He cost a significant amount of money in his two-year stint, in which he could only manage 16 games scoring a paltry 4 goals. Reports show that Martinez raked up more than £3.3mn per appearance for Guangzhou and a mammoth £13mn per goal for his worth to the club.

However, the fixture being just the first game of Chinese League’s season, the players can expect a quick change in fortune next time around.
