Matheus Cunha Commits To Keeping Wolves In Premier League Before Considering Future Transfers

Matheus Cunha has pledged to help Wolves secure their place in the Premier League before contemplating a transfer. Following a crucial win over Aston Villa, manager Vitor Pereira highlighted Cunha's dedication and potential future at the club.

Matheus Cunha has expressed his determination to help Wolves secure their Premier League status before contemplating future opportunities, according to Vitor Pereira. In a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, Cunha scored a decisive goal in the dying moments of the match. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also found the net, contributing to Wolves' triumph over their West Midlands rivals at Molineux.

Cunha's goal came after he capitalised on Ezri Konsa's errant header, showcasing his skill by outmanoeuvring the England defender and scoring. This marked his 25th Premier League goal for Wolves, making him only the second player after Raul Jimenez to reach this milestone for the club. Despite recent links to clubs like Arsenal, Cunha's commitment to Wolves was evident as he kissed the club badge after scoring.

Cunha Focused on Wolves' Premier League Survival

Reports suggest that Cunha has agreed to a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Wolves. When asked about Cunha's future by Sky Sports, Pereira stated that Cunha intends to remain at Molineux until the end of the 2024-25 season before evaluating his options. Pereira praised Cunha's ability to create goals from challenging situations, describing him as a special player who brings significant value to the team.

Pereira shared that in a recent conversation, Cunha expressed his dedication to helping Wolves stay in the Premier League this season. "He is very committed to his team-mates and very committed to the club," Pereira said. "He knows in the future he can play for the best teams in England, but he's committed with us." With Cunha's quality, Pereira is confident that Wolves will maintain their Premier League status next season.

The victory against Aston Villa moved Wolves two points clear of relegation following losses by Ipswich Town and Leicester City earlier that day. Under Pereira's leadership, Wolves have achieved three clean sheets in eight Premier League matches, all resulting in wins (including 3-0 against Leicester and 2-0 against Manchester United). This is an improvement compared to their previous record under Gary O'Neil.

Matt Doherty highlighted the importance of this win after four consecutive losses. "We knew how important this was after four losses in a row," Doherty said. He emphasised that doing the basics right leads to positive results and acknowledged Villa's weakened squad as an opportunity they seized effectively.

Team Morale Boosted

Doherty noted that following managerial instructions contributed significantly to their performance. "If you do the basics right, the results will come," he stated. The victory demonstrated their capability and potential within what he described as "the best league in the world." Doherty believes this win can galvanise the entire club moving forward.

This crucial win not only boosted team morale but also showcased their ability to compete against any opponent on a good day. As they continue their campaign, maintaining focus throughout each game remains essential for success in such a competitive league environment.
