Matheus Cunha Attributes His Versatility At Manchester United To Brazil National Team Call-Ups

Matheus Cunha believes his adaptability at Manchester United has secured his place in Brazil's national team as they prepare for the World Cup. His performance and ability to play multiple positions have strengthened his case for selection.

Matheus Cunha's adaptability has been key to his inclusion in Brazil's national team since joining Manchester United. His ability to play various roles has earned him a spot in all four of Carlo Ancelotti's squads since May, as Brazil gears up for the World Cup next year. Despite scoring only once for United, he has created 13 chances, ranking fourth among his teammates.

Cunha has featured in 11 matches across all competitions for Manchester United since transferring from Wolves. Ruben Amorim has utilised him in different positions, including as a false nine and on both wings at Old Trafford. This flexibility, Cunha believes, enhances his prospects for the World Cup squad as Brazil seeks another title.

Cunha's Versatility Earns Brazil Call-Up

The 26-year-old forward was not part of Brazil's squad during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. At that time, he played for Atletico Madrid and was visibly emotional after being left out. However, Cunha views this setback as a pivotal moment in his career. "Every moment in life is an opportunity to grow," he stated.

Cunha emphasises the importance of proving oneself at the club level to secure a place in the national team. "To earn a spot in the national team, you have to consistently show your worth at club level," he said. He appreciates playing for Manchester United, a club with high expectations and competitive spirit.

Reflecting on his past experiences, Cunha acknowledges that missing out on Qatar was painful but transformative. "Not being selected for Qatar was painful, but it taught me to deal with setbacks differently," he explained. This experience has contributed to his growth and maturity as a player.

Cunha feels optimistic about the current cycle with Brazil's national team despite frequent player rotations. He notes that there is clarity in their direction and shared understanding among players about their goals. "This new cycle feels different," he remarked.

His versatility and determination have not only strengthened his position at Manchester United but also bolstered his chances with Brazil's national team. As preparations continue for next year's World Cup, Cunha remains focused on delivering strong performances wherever he plays.
