David Beckham and his journey in Spanish Football

Two decades after David Beckham made an impression on LALIGA, it's fitting to reminisce on his Spanish journey.

The star footballer, a standout from Manchester United and England's national team, was more than his on-field brilliance - his style, marriage to Spice Girl member Victoria Adams, and fashionable attire morphed him into an off-field icon.

Two decades after David Beckham made an impression on LALIGA EA SPORTS, its fitting to reminisce on his Spanish journey.

In the 2003 summertime, after protracted talks, his move to Spain came to fruition. As a recent biographical film highlights, the precursor to his move occurs in that same year's April, during a key Champions League quarter-final match between Real Madrid and Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite suffering a defeat thanks to Ronaldo's hat-trick surpassing Beckham's two goals, a quick exchange of words with Zinedine Zidane post-game sowed the seed for Beckham's move to Real Madrid.

Later that summer, Beckham, flanked by the famed Alfredo Di Stéfano, was launched as a Real Madrid entity. His choice of jersey number 23 caught observers off guard, a tribute to Michael Jordan, the trailblazing Chicago Bulls superstar. With Beckham's arrival, Real Madrid sought a revolution in sports media.

Joining a squad boasting the likes of Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Raúl, and Ronaldo, they became globally recognized as The Galácticos. However, Beckham's tenure at the club saw him win just two titles in his four-year stint, one LALIGA EA SPORTS trophy and one Spanish Super Cup, a stark difference to his personal achievements, where he delivered 20 goals and 52 assists in 159 games.

A hallmark of Beckham's style was his exceptional ball-striking ability. His finesse and deceptive techniques were a nightmare for opposition goalkeepers and defenders. Evidence of this was his set-piece prowess, with 12 out of his 20 goals for Real Madrid being freekicks, matching Lionel Messi as the fifth-highest freekick scorer in history with 65 goals each.

Even now, his legacy lives on in LALIGA. As player Jude Bellingham garners attention, it stirs up memories of the Beckham days. Moreover, Beckham has left measurable impacts on others in the league.

One significant example is Antoine Griezmann, who openly admires Beckham. This is evident in Griezmann's frequent style transformations, his preference for the No.7 jersey, and his penchant for long-sleeved shirts, all tributes to the enduring David Beckham legend.
