London, Jun 14: It is everybody's dream to be a part of the national Olympics squad, especially, if it is being played in one's own country. And British football superstar, David Beckham is no different.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Beckham, 36 said, "Decisions are still to be made but I'd love to be part of it. I'm an East End lad and being English born and bred, it(London Olympics) would be something I'd be very honoured to be part of."

The 36-year old who enjoys a cult status in England, made his last international appearance for his national team, back in October 2009. Currently, in his last season for the LA Galaxy, the British mid-fielder has won 115 caps for England, more than any other outfield player, since making his debut in 1996.

Beckham, has also been the part of three world cup squads without ever winning the coveted trophy.

Speaking out on his passion for football and the expectations from the upcoming Olympics, Beckham said, "Football will be a massive part of the Olympics and it will be really exciting to see that. This is the first time I will have been to an Olympics and I'll probably be there with my children."

He added, "Football has been a part of my life for many years and to be a part of that would be incredible. We'll see what role I'll play in the build-up or at the Olympics, but I'll be there as a fan."

The football superstar got candid about his favourite athletes and said, "I want to watch athletes like Jessica Ennis and Tom Daley, young athletes who are going to inspire so many young children around the world. For myself to be able to take my sons to an Olympics in our country makes me proud. Hopefully my daughter will be there as well."

According to Olympic rules, teams are made up of players aged under 23 but can include three over-aged stars, so Beckham 36, is definitely in with a chance to participate in the quadrennial event.

That apart, Beckham was also a member of the Olympics bid team and reminiscing the days he said, "When I was asked to be part of the Olympic bid I was very sceptical at first because I'd never competed in the Olympics, I'm a football player."

He added, "The moment when we got the Olympics was one of the most rewarding things of my career. The Olympics means the world to everyone. It's such a great event to be part of. There will be some exciting athletes coming to our country, coming to London which is where I grew up. It's a very exciting prospect."
