Former England football captain David Beckham has been knighted in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport and his longstanding dedication to charitable causes.
The 50-year-old was officially included in King Charles III's Birthday Honours list announced on Saturday, joining the ranks of iconic British sports figures such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Andy Murray.

Beckham, who earned 115 international caps during his playing career with the England national team, is widely regarded as one of the most influential footballers of his generation. Known for his pinpoint crosses and deadly accuracy from free-kicks, Beckham played a pivotal role in Manchester United's dominance under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.
His illustrious club career saw him represent some of the world's biggest teams. After a high-profile fallout with Ferguson, Beckham transferred to Real Madrid in 2003, where he became part of the famous Galacticos. He later joined LA Galaxy in the United States, with loan spells at AC Milan before concluding his playing journey with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013. Across all competitions, Beckham scored 127 goals in over 700 appearances.
The knighthood comes two decades after he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. His wife, Victoria Beckham, a former pop star turned fashion mogul, also holds the same honour for her impact on the fashion industry.
Beckham's humanitarian work has been equally commendable. Since 2005, he has served as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, focusing on the welfare of children globally. In addition, he works closely with the King's Foundation, which promotes environmental education and awareness among young people.
Although Beckham was first considered for a knighthood in 2012-largely due to his role in helping bring the 2012 Olympic Games to London-the recognition was delayed due to concerns over alleged tax issues, which were later dismissed.
In recent years, Beckham has made headlines off the pitch as the co-owner of Inter Miami CF, a Major League Soccer (MLS) club he launched in 2014. Under his leadership, the club has attracted footballing legends like Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, cementing Beckham's influence both on and off the field.
