David Moyes has returned to Everton, taking over from Sean Dyche at Goodison Park. The club confirmed this change on Saturday. Moyes, who left Everton 12 years ago for Manchester United, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. During his initial tenure from 2002 to 2013, he managed 518 matches across all competitions, securing 218 victories, with a win rate of 42.08%.
Everton currently sits in the 16th position in the Premier League standings. Under former manager Dyche, they secured only one victory in their last 11 top-flight games. Following Dyche's departure, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman temporarily led the team to an FA Cup third-round win over Peterborough United.

Moyes' managerial journey after leaving Everton included a brief stint at Manchester United lasting just ten months due to unsatisfactory results. He then managed Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and had two spells with West Ham. The 61-year-old has been without a job since leaving West Ham at the end of last season after leading them to the Europa Conference League title in 2023.
In a statement from the club, Moyes expressed his enthusiasm: "It's great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn't hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club." He is eager to collaborate with The Friedkin Group and aims to assist in rebuilding the club.
Moyes emphasized the importance of support from Goodison Park and Everton fans during this crucial season. He hopes for strong backing as they aim to transition into their new stadium while maintaining Premier League status. Announcements about Moyes' coaching staff will be made soon.
Moyes' first match as manager will be against Aston Villa next Wednesday at Goodison Park. Following that, Everton will host Tottenham four days later. These fixtures present an immediate challenge for Moyes as he seeks to steer the team towards better results.
The club looks forward to Moyes' leadership as they navigate through this transitional period. His experience and past success with Everton are expected to play a crucial role in revitalizing the team's performance on the field.
