Mohun Bagan secretary thwarts rumours of club unwilling to play Kolkata derby

No confirmed news has yet come either about the date or venue of the coming Kolkata derby. In this situation, rumours are spreading like wildfire. There have even been rumours that Mohun Bagan don't want to play the Kolkata derby.

However, Debasish Dutta, the club secretary thwarted any such rumours saying that all of them are lies. After watching the Mariners win against Jamshedpur FC, he faced the media and opened up about the Kolkata derby.

This derby is East Bengal's home match. Hence, they have the responsibility to sort out the problems. Debasish Dutta said, “They ie, East Bengal are the hosts. We will play wherever they say. We have nothing to say here, the final decision will be taken by FSDL.”

Talking about the rumours that the Mariners don't want to play the derby, he said, “Many people are saying that Mohun Bagan don't want to play. It's all lies. We agree to play on any day. But the match on the 13th should be changed to the 14th.”

There have been discussions on moving the date of the Kolkata derby to either March 9 or 11. However, Mohun Bagan have another important match scheduled against Kerala Blasters on March 13.

Mohun Bagan are willing to play on any given day. However, the only condition they have put is if they have to play the derby on the 11th, then the game against Kerala will have to be moved to Match 14.

The date of this season's first derby was postponed after the date clashed with the last day of the Durga Puja. The police would have been unable to provide the necessary security for the match, so the date was postponed to February 3.

This time around, the Kolkata derby date is clashing with the date of a Trinamool brigade rally. For the same security reasons as before regarding the police, either the date or the venue might need to be changed.
