Debjit Majumder's SLK Dream Comes True: 'I Always Wanted to Play for a Kerala Club' | Exclusive

Debjit Majumder had long wanted to experience the passion of Kerala football from the inside. Having visited the state several times as an opponent, the experienced goalkeeper finally got his opportunity to represent a Kerala club when he joined Kannur Warriors FC in the Super League Kerala (SLK).

For Debjit, the appeal went beyond playing another tournament. The atmosphere in Kerala's football grounds, the loyalty of supporters and the opportunity to contribute to a competitive league made the experience special.

Speaking exclusively to MyKhel, the goalkeeper reflected on his long-standing desire to play in SLK and the emotions of being part of a title-winning campaign.

On his long-standing desire to play in Super League Kerala, Debjit said, "I always wanted to play in Super League Kerala as I was following SLK for a long time. I came to Kochi many times as an opponent but never played for a Kerala club. Whenever I used to come for away matches, the crowd was crazy. The people here are die-hard for their clubs. So, I wanted to play for them and be part of the league. I was following it, and when I was approached, I agreed to come."

Beyond the immediate success, Debjit believes SLK has an important role in developing Kerala's next generation of footballers. Having experienced both the ISL and I-League, he sees the competition as an opportunity for young local players to gain exposure and improve.

"I have played in the ISL, I-League, and wanted to experience the Super League Kerala. I have seen the SLK as very competitive, and there are many youngsters who get the platform. Even in our team, there are players who are around 19-20 years old, and the league is giving a great opportunity to local players. I hope I can help and motivate the young players and I am ready to help the team in any way and give my hundred per cent," he continued.
