Dembele Future At PSG Under Scrutiny As Luis Enrique Denounces Fake News

Luis Enrique publicly counters ongoing Dembele rumours about contract talks, emphasising private negotiations and warning against fake news. The PSG coach praises Dembele's impact this season while directing inquiries to PSG's football advisor, underscoring the club's focus on performance over speculation.

Luis Enrique dismissed talk around Ousmane Dembele’s future at Paris Saint-Germain, labelling recent stories as fake. Reports in France say PSG and Dembele are negotiating a new contract and that an initial offer was rejected. Luis Enrique insisted such claims do not match reality and urged focus on football.

The coach’s comments came as PSG prepared for the Coupe de France tie against Paris FC on Monday. Paris FC were already opponents in Ligue 1 on January 4. Speculation has grown despite Dembele entering the final two years of the existing deal at Parc des Princes.

Addressing the media, Luis Enrique underlined that discussions over Dembele are ongoing but strictly internal. Luis Enrique said: "These are just rumours, there are always rumours about PSG, Luis Enrique said ahead of Monday's Coupe de France clash with local rivals Paris FC, who PSG faced in Ligue 1 on January 4. We're used to it. It's private and it will remain so. There's a lot of fake news. You [the media] might think it's important to destabilise the players and the team, but none of that will happen. It's normal to have negotiations but it remains private, we know what we want and that's the most important thing. We're calm and collected, as usual. Normally, you have to deal with problems on the pitch, but right now people are trying to destabilise us off the pitch with this kind of fake news. But it has nothing to do with reality."

PSG are understood to be working on improved terms to keep Dembele beyond the current agreement. The France international is seen as a central figure in the club’s project. However, Luis Enrique stressed that contract details are handled away from public view and that the squad remains relaxed.

Dembele’s status at PSG has been strengthened by major individual honours in 2025. The winger won the 2025 Ballon d'Or and FIFA Best Award after an outstanding year. Those awards recognised Dembele’s influence in Paris and for France, underlining why PSG are eager to secure a longer commitment.

Dembele also delivered in key domestic matches for PSG. The forward scored in the Trophee des Champions against Marseille on Thursday. PSG won that match on penalties, adding another trophy to the club’s recent record. The performance reinforced Dembele’s reputation as a decisive player on major occasions.

Injuries have disrupted Dembele during the current season, limiting availability for Luis Enrique. Dembele has played only 16 matches in all competitions so far. Despite that reduced time, Dembele has produced six goals and four assists. Dembele has also created 39 chances, the third-highest figure within Luis Enrique’s squad.

The club also highlighted Dembele’s presence in training ahead of the domestic cup match. PSG shared a short update on social media that featured the winger. The post read "Back to work!" alongside training footage, underlining that Dembele remains integrated with teammates on the pitch.

While Luis Enrique firmly rejected suggestions of dressing-room unrest, the coach pointed reporters elsewhere for contract specifics. Luis Enrique made clear that questions over Dembele’s long-term situation should go to PSG football advisor Luis Campos. For now, the focus inside the club stays on matches and managing Dembele’s fitness.
