Denmark has appointed Brian Riemer as their new head coach following Kasper Hjulmand's departure after their Euro 2024 exit in July. Riemer, who previously held various coaching roles at Copenhagen and served as Thomas Frank's assistant at Brentford from 2018, later took the top position at Anderlecht. He led them to a third-place finish in the Belgian Pro League last season before his departure.
Riemer's appointment comes after interim coach Lars Knudsen managed to secure seven points from Denmark's first four matches in Nations League Group A4. Peter Moller, DBU football director, expressed enthusiasm about Riemer's arrival, stating, "With Brian Riemer, we get a coach with the energy, passion and great commitment that we have been looking for." Moller highlighted Riemer's alignment with Denmark's football philosophy of dominating matches through attacking and technical play.

Denmark had a strong run to the Euro 2020 semi-finals but faced setbacks with a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup and elimination by Germany in Euro 2024's last 16. Despite these challenges, there is optimism surrounding Riemer's leadership. He expressed his excitement and readiness for this role, saying it fulfills a long-held dream.
Riemer shared his commitment to Denmark's national team: "Becoming the national coach for Denmark is a big dream that is coming true, and I am enormously proud and honoured." He emphasized his motivation and readiness for the task ahead. "I will give everything for this fantastic team and country," he added.
The new head coach aims to unite players, staff, and fans in pursuit of success. His vision involves working collaboratively to achieve significant accomplishments on the international stage. With Riemer's appointment, Denmark hopes to build on past successes while addressing recent challenges in major tournaments.
