Didier Deschamps addressed rumours about Kylian Mbappe's absence from France's upcoming squad, confirming the Real Madrid star's return. Mbappe missed the October and November selections, sparking speculation of tension with Deschamps. However, the 26-year-old is set to rejoin Les Bleus for their Nations League matches against Croatia next month, provided he remains fit.
Deschamps emphasised Mbappe's dedication to the French national team despite recent personal challenges. "Of course he'll be there. Why wouldn't he be?" Deschamps told L'Equipe. He explained that specific reasons led to Mbappe's previous exclusion but assured fans of his return if he stays healthy. "He's very attached to the French team," Deschamps added.

Mbappe has regained full fitness, evident in both his performance and mindset. His recent form has been impressive, scoring 10 goals across various competitions in 2025. This resurgence follows a challenging start at Real Madrid, where he initially struggled to find his rhythm.
Deschamps also clarified that missing previous international fixtures does not affect Mbappe's leadership role within the team. "It took some time, but it fell into place because he did everything necessary," Deschamps stated. He acknowledged ongoing internal discussions but affirmed that these absences do not undermine Mbappe's captaincy.
The coach expressed confidence in Mbappe's leadership qualities and sees no reason to question his role as captain for March matches. "I have no reason today to say that he will not be captain in March," Deschamps noted, highlighting their regular communication.
As France prepares for its upcoming fixtures, the focus remains on maintaining a strong squad dynamic with key players like Mbappe leading the charge. His return is anticipated to bolster the team's performance as they face Croatia next month.
