Deschamps Holds Course After Italy Defeat, Focuses On Belgium Game

Didier Deschamps will not alter his strategy for France's Nations League game against Belgium despite a recent loss to Italy. He emphasizes the importance of player rotation and giving new talents like Michael Olise and Manu Kone playing time.

Didier Deschamps remains committed to his strategy for France's Nations League match against Belgium, despite their recent defeat to Italy. France suffered a surprising 3-1 loss in Paris during their opening Group A2 game at the Parc des Princes on Friday.

Deschamps introduced Bayern Munich's Michael Olise and Roma's Manu Kone, who made his debut as a substitute. The French manager insists on continuing player rotation due to the World Cup qualification structure. "The six Nations League matches must be used to introduce new players and distribute playing time," Deschamps told reporters.

Deschamps Firm Post-Italy Loss

He explained that if the schedule involved World Cup qualifiers, he would have taken a different approach. "If we had a different schedule and were playing World Cup qualifiers, I would not have chosen this course, that's for sure. But I chose it because I believe that we have to go through it. I'm not going to change course."

Despite Bradley Barcola scoring France's fastest goal ever after just 12 seconds, Italy managed to come back and secure a comfortable win. This was France's first loss to Italy since June 2008.

Deschamps is looking for an improved performance against Belgium, whom they defeated 1-0 in the round of 16 at Euro 2024. "I can't be satisfied with the match against Italy, nor can the players," he said. "Tomorrow is another game, another context, a different team with the same obligation."

Upcoming Challenge Against Belgium

The upcoming match against Belgium will take place on Monday at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon. Deschamps emphasised the importance of giving playing time to as many players as possible. "The course I have taken is to give as much playing time to as many players as possible," he added.

"Whatever the playing time, there is always pressure; you have to perform as well as possible." Deschamps hopes this approach will help build a stronger team for future competitions.

The French manager remains optimistic about his team's potential and looks forward to seeing how they perform in their next challenge.
