Ahead of PSG's Ligue 1 clash against Rennes on Sunday (March 19), it was expected that the fans would boo the majority of the players including Lionel Messi. And, that was exactly the case as the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was booed and jeered by fans from the moment his name was read as part of the starting XI.

Things got only worse as Christophe Galtier's side succumbed to their fourth Ligue 1 defeat of the season at the hands of Rennes who humbled them with a 2-0 scoreline.
Messi appeared to shun Paris Saint-Germain fans and walk straight down their tunnel after the game. While the rest of Galtier's side applauded the PSG faithful, Messi headed straight down the tunnel and did not greet the fans.

Messi and co. were also whistled by the fans last season following their early exit from the Champions League and that has been the case once again. Since their takeover by the Qatar Sports Investment group, Champions League has been the trophy the fans have dreamt about but they have been only disappointed as a result.
While Messi is arguably the greatest player of all time, his arrival has hardly taken PSG a step forward in the right direction. They have flattered to deceive time and again in the Champions League which is why it is understandable why the fans are frustrated.
Meanwhile, Messi's contract situation is another reason why the fans are far from pleased with the Argentine icon. The 35-year-old forward is out of contract at the Parc des Princes at the end of the season and is yet to commit his future at the club despite PSG making their best efforts.
It is never a pleasing sight to see players being jeered by their own fans, especially when we are talking about a player like Messi. However, if we think from the fans' perspective, it is hardly a surprise to see Messi being targeted by the Paris Saint-Germain fanbase.
