Dominic Calvert-Lewin Announces Departure From Everton On Free Transfer After Nine Years

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will leave Everton on a free transfer after nine years with the club. The striker reflects on his journey and expresses gratitude to fans and teammates.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has announced his departure from Everton, effective July 1, as a free agent. Since joining the club in 2016 for £1.5 million from Sheffield United, he has become an integral part of the team. Over his tenure, Calvert-Lewin made 239 Premier League appearances and scored 57 goals. Despite his contributions, injuries have plagued him in recent seasons.

Calvert-Lewin's performance was notably affected by injuries, limiting him to just 17 league appearances in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He managed to start more than 20 matches only three times during his nine years at Everton. These seasons were also the only ones where he played over 2,000 minutes in the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin Leaves Everton as Free Agent

Despite these challenges, Calvert-Lewin has attracted interest from clubs like Newcastle United and Manchester United. As a free agent, he is now open to joining a new team. His decision to leave Everton was shared on Instagram, where he expressed gratitude for his time at the club and acknowledged the support of fans and teammates.

"To Everton Football Club and the Evertonians," Calvert-Lewin wrote on Instagram, "after nine remarkable years at this club, I've made the incredibly difficult decision, together with my family, to begin a new chapter in my career. This isn't something I chose lightly."

Calvert-Lewin reflected on his journey with Everton, stating that it had been his home since he was 19 years old. He credited the club for recognising his potential and helping him grow both as a player and as an individual. He expressed appreciation for all managers, coaches, and teammates who supported him throughout his career.

"I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I've worked with over the years," he continued, "and to my teammates, who have become lifelong friends." He also addressed the fans directly: "Above all, I want to speak to you, the fans. Your passion is the beating heart of this club."

A Difficult Decision

The striker emphasised that leaving was not an easy choice but one made after careful consideration with his family. They believe it's time for a new challenge while maintaining a strong connection with Everton. Calvert-Lewin hopes to leave with respect from fans and confidence that he upheld the club's values.

"This choice to move on was not simply about me," he explained. "It was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together." He added that although he's moving forward, he'll always cherish his bond with Everton.

Calvert-Lewin is among four players who scored ten or more Premier League goals for Everton over the last four seasons. With 12 goals during this period, he joins Abdoulaye Doucoure (15), Dwight McNeil (14), and Beto (11) in this achievement. Notably, Doucoure has also left as a free agent.
