Borussia Dortmund face a daunting task in their Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona. They need a remarkable turnaround after losing the first leg 4-0. Niko Kovac, aware of the challenge, emphasised the need for a transformed performance to have any chance of progressing. "We want to show a completely different face tomorrow than in the first leg and win the game," Kovac stated.
Barcelona's victory in the first leg was powered by goals from Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal. Dortmund's chances seem slim as only one team has ever overturned a four-goal deficit in Champions League history. That comeback was achieved by Barcelona themselves against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Currently eighth in the Bundesliga with 42 points, Dortmund are struggling domestically as well. Their captain, Emre Can, might miss the crucial match due to ongoing muscular issues. "We rested Emre in training today," Kovac explained. "He’s had muscular problems in his adductor area for weeks now and he’s always gritting his teeth."
If Can is unavailable, Felix Nmecha could step up despite recently returning from injury himself. Kovac praised Nmecha's development: "Felix has developed very well as a player and as a person. He can do everything on the ball, has great dynamics and is a complete player."
Adding to Dortmund's challenge is Barcelona's unbeaten run since January. This makes them formidable opponents on Tuesday at Signal Iduna Park. Kovac acknowledged this saying, "There are always miracles, but we also know that Barcelona haven't lost a competitive game yet this year."
The home crowd will play an essential role if Dortmund are to mount any sort of comeback. Kovac stressed the importance of fan support: "We have to be there from the first minute tomorrow and get the fans on our side."
Dortmund's uphill battle requires not just skill but also determination and unity on the pitch. The team must capitalise on every opportunity while maintaining defensive solidity against Barcelona's potent attack.
