Borussia Dortmund's head coach, Nuri Sahin, expressed his satisfaction following the team's 3-0 triumph over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. This victory marked Dortmund's first away win in seven matches across all competitions. The result places them fourth in the 36-team Champions League standings, trailing leaders Liverpool by three points.
Sahin emphasised the significance of winning away from home, stating, "To win away from home is something that feels great. It is important for the table, for our morale." He acknowledged the match's difficulty but noted that after scoring the first goal, Dortmund gained dominance. Sahin stressed the need to continue working hard.

Dortmund showcased their superiority against Dinamo Zagreb with an expected goals (xG) statistic of 1.75 compared to Dinamo's 0.13. They controlled over 70% of possession and attempted 17 shots while limiting their opponents to just five attempts. This performance highlighted their tactical execution and ability to control the game.
Sahin praised his players for their patience against a defensively deep opponent. "We have played two really good matches now and we remained patient today against a very deep opponent," he said. He added that maintaining positions and moving the ball effectively were key factors in their deserved victory.
Despite facing a challenging defence, Sahin noted that the field conditions posed more issues than Dinamo's defensive strategy. He believed better grass would have increased their scoring opportunities. Dortmund has now won four out of their last five matches across all competitions.
Looking ahead, Dortmund aims to carry this form into their upcoming clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday. However, Sahin chose not to shift focus too quickly from their recent success. "I look forward to that game [against Bayern] but I want to enjoy the evening tonight with my boys," he stated, indicating that preparations for Bayern would begin on Thursday.
The victory over Dinamo Zagreb has boosted Dortmund's confidence as they continue their Champions League campaign and prepare for domestic challenges ahead.
