East Bengal FC will begin their Durand Cup 2025 journey on July 23, facing South United FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The historic club, which has lifted the prestigious Durand Cup 16 times, is aiming to end a 21-year drought in the tournament.

Only arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant have won it more times, with 17 titles to their name.

The Red & Gold Brigade have been drawn in Group A alongside South United FC, Namdhari FC, and Indian Air Force FT. All of East Bengal's group stage matches will be held in Kolkata, split between two iconic venues - the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan and the Kishore Bharati Krirangan.

East Bengal were the runners-up in the 2023 edition but had a disappointing campaign last time, bowing out in the second round. The 2024-25 season wasn't much brighter either, as they finished ninth in the league, made an early exit from the Super Cup 2025, and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the AFC Challenge League.

In response, head coach Oscar Bruzon has overseen significant changes to the squad. Foreign stars Hijazi Maher, Mahdi Talal, and Messi Bouli have been released, while the club has brought in Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira, Palestinian international Mohammed Rashid, and Argentine defender Kevin Sibille to bolster their ranks.

With a refreshed squad and renewed ambition, East Bengal will be eyeing a strong run in this year's Durand Cup to end their title drought and regain lost momentum.
