Durand Cup to commence on Aug 8

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) The 121st edition of the Osian's-Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, will be held here on August 8 to September 7 at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium.

The tournament will be held in two phases. The preliminary round will be held from August 8-19 and will include the qualifying round, wherein 18 teams will compete including Pune FC, J and K BANK and Amity United.

The qualifying round will be based on a knock out format with the four top teams advancing into the pre-quarterfinal round.

The opening ceremony of the event will be held on August 21 marking the beginning of the main round.

The tournament will have a total prize money of Rs 20 lakh - Rs 8 Lakh for the winners and 6 Lakh for the Runners Up.

Cash awards will also be given out to the Best Player of the Tournament, Best Player of the Final Match, Best Coach and Best Goalkeeper.

The highest scorer will be awarded the Golden Boot.
