Paulo Dybala Rejects Saudi Pro League's £75M Offer To Remain With AS Roma

World Cup winner Paulo Dybala turned down a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League to stay at AS Roma, citing family, career ambitions, and team loyalty as key factors in his decision. His commitment highlights the importance of personal values over financial incentives in professional sports.

Paulo Dybala considered a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League before deciding to remain with Roma. Al-Qadsiah reportedly offered him a three-year contract worth 75 million, but he chose to stay in Italy. He played in Roma's 2-1 defeat to Empoli in Serie A on Sunday.

Everybody looks at the money, but I put many things on the table to come to my decision: my family, my wife, the city, the team, and my desire to return to the national team," Dybala told Sky Italia.

Dybala explained that his decision was influenced by several factors beyond financial gain. He considered his family's well-being, his wife's preferences, and his connection to Rome and its football team. His ambition to rejoin Argentina's national team also played a role. The Argentinian star has been a key player for Roma since joining from Juventus in 2022. Last season, he scored 16 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. Only Romelu Lukaku surpassed his goal tally with 21 goals in 47 games. In addition to his goal-scoring prowess, Dybala contributed significantly to Roma's overall performance. He was involved in more goals than any other teammate, registering 10 assists and creating numerous chances. Specifically, he led the team with 61 chances created and 15 big chances created during the 2023-24 season.

"I'm 30 and feel good. I've seen a lot of criticism about the injuries, but I try to work hard every day to take care of myself and perform the best I can," Dybala said.

Dybala Stays at Roma, Rejects £75M Offer
Despite being tempted by the substantial offer from Al-Qadsiah, Dybala ultimately prioritised his happiness and professional goals over financial incentives. He acknowledged that while the offer was attractive, other aspects were more important in making his decision.

"Surely when you see that kind of figure I can't say I didn't think about it, but I weighed a few aspects. It made no difference to my agent. It's not true that he would have made a lot of money. The most important thing for him is my happiness. We've collaborated for a long time," Dybala added.

Agent's Role

Dybala clarified that his agent's primary concern was his happiness rather than potential earnings from the deal. Their long-standing professional relationship ensured that personal satisfaction took precedence over monetary gains.

"I don't know how the Arabs reacted as I didn't speak with them directly," Dybala admitted.

Dybala remains committed to Roma and continues to be an influential figure for the club. His dedication and performance have endeared him to fans and solidified his position as a key player in Italian football.AS Roma English (@ASRomaEN) August 25, 2024#ASRoma | #RomaEmpoli pic.twitter.com/utUS1m7hfi
