East Bengal Captain Cleiton Silva Talks About Carles Cuadrat And Future Hopes

East Bengal's captain, Cleiton Silva spoke about the turbulent period that the club is going through, sends a hopeful message for fans and former head coach Carles Cuadrat who the club recently parted ways with after a disappointing start to the ISL 2024-25 season.

Despite winning the Super Cup last year and ending a 12-year trophy drought under Cuadrat, the team's struggles in the Indian Super League have led to frustration among fans. The current season has been particularly challenging, with East Bengal losing all three of their opening matches.

The club officially announced Cuadrat's departure on Monday morning, marking a significant turning point for the Kolkata giants. Later that day, Cleiton Silva spoke to the press after the team's training session, reflecting on the recent developments and the team's poor form.

"The team's performance has been bad, and the responsibility falls on us [players]," Silva admitted, acknowledging that the burden of the club's struggles doesn't solely lie with Cuadrat. "The coach [Carles Cuadrat] is not the only one to blame."

"However, with the changes coming [appointment of a new coach], more times than not, the team's performance turns on its head and changes for the better. So, we are also expecting better days," he added, expressing optimism for the future despite the recent setbacks.

Cuadrat, who was brought in with high expectations after leading the team to the Super Cup victory, couldn't replicate the same success in the ISL. His departure signals the start of a new chapter for East Bengal as they look to turn their season around.

The club has appointed youth team coach Bino George as the interim manager while the search for Cuadrat's replacement continues. Reportedly, East Bengal has already shortlisted three potential candidates for the head coach position.

The final decision is expected to be made before the highly anticipated Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan, scheduled for October 19. Fans are hopeful that a new managerial direction will help the team rediscover its form and avoid further disappointments in the ISL.
