East Bengal Fans Throng Kolkata Airport To Welcome Team After Super Cup Triumph - Watch Video

More than 4000 East Bengal football club supporters thronged at the Kolkata airport on Monday to give a warm welcome to their victorious team for clinching the Super Cup 2024.

The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport from outside was decked up with red and gold shirts and flags. The chants of 'Joy East Bengal’ were vociferously heard after the East Bengal team players and support staff members arrived in Kolkata around 4 PM on Monday noon.

Special CISF forces were deployed to control the crowd as the City of Joy observed traffic jams during that period with many bikes chasing the team bus. The supporters went berserk when East Bengal manager Carles Cuadrat came out of the airport, as revealed by one of the fans present at the airport.

East Bengal defeated Odisha FC 3-2 in the Super Cup 2024 final at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. It ended the 12-year title drought for the Kolkata-based club. The 2012 Federation Cup was the last silverware for East Bengal when the Red and Golds edged past Demco SC with an identical margin of 3-2 in the extra time in Siliguri.

East Bengal captain Cleiton Silva netted the decisive goal in the extra time after both teams played an enthralling 2-2 draw in the full-time. Diego Mauricio and Ahmed Jahouh scored for Odisha FC, while Nandha Kumar and Saul Crespo added one each for the eventual champions.

Carles Cuadrat and his men confirmed their place in the AFC Asian Cup next season. The club will play in the preliminary stage of the Asian Champions League 2.
