East Bengal is beyond a football club to its supporters. It is a symbol of passion and pride for millions of its supporters.
Apart from its illustrious history, the Kolkata club has always placed its supporters at the heart of its journey. Whether lifting trophies or enduring difficult seasons, the fans have stood by the team unwaveringly, and East Bengal has reciprocated that love time and again.

On the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Emami East Bengal FC demonstrated their deep roots with their supporters. The century-old institution, which boasts a legacy of deep-rooted connection with its fans, joined hands with CK Birla Hospitals - CMRI Kolkata to bring joy and hope to one of its most loyal supporters, Ganesh Das.
Ganesh Das, 46, a resident of Kolkata's Baghajatin, has been a lifelong supporter of East Bengal despite living with a chronic knee disease since birth that has left him unable to walk. For over two decades, Ganesh has defied the odds, making his way to the club's home matches, fueled by his passion for the Red and Gold brigade. He earns his livelihood by selling incense sticks but never lets his struggles dampen his love for the club he has followed since 1997.
For Ganesh, the dream of meeting the players and coaches of his beloved team remained unfulfilled until now. On Monday, his beloved East Bengal turned his dream into reality. Ganesh was brought to the East Bengal Club Ground to witness the first-team training and interact with the players and coaching staff.
After wrapping up their training session on Monday (December 2), the entire East Bengal squad, led by head coach Oscar Bruzon, personally greeted Ganesh. The players and staff applauded his unwavering support and presented him with a signed East Bengal jersey, symbolizing the club's gratitude for his loyalty.
"Fans like you justify our existence. It is our honour to interact with you and make your day worthwhile," said Bruzon while handing Ganesh the jersey.
"We are always here to support you and hope to see you again at another training session," the Spaniard added.
The moment brought immense joy to Ganesh, who described the experience as "the happiest day of my life."
In addition to the emotional connection fostered by the club, CK Birla Hospitals - CMRI ensured that Ganesh received physical support to aid his daily struggles. Dr. Purusatyam Chakraborty, Consultant & Head Emergency at CMRI, presented him with a wellness kit comprising knee pads, a lumbar belt, a scooter helmet, and a t-shirt to help him carry out his activities with greater ease.
"Ganesh's love for football despite his challenges is truly inspiring. At CK Birla Hospitals - CMRI, we are committed to supporting individuals like him who teach us how to live life to the fullest," Dr. Chakraborty remarked.
Monday's gesture was a reflection of the club's long-standing tradition of valuing its supporters, proving that the Red and Gold family extends far beyond the pitch. For Ganesh, this day was not just about meeting his idols but also about becoming a part of the club's enduring legacy. Amid the daily struggles, it was a special moment indeed for a special fan.
As East Bengal continues its journey in Indian football, gestures like these shall strengthen its bond with its supporters. They ended last week with their first win in the ISL, and they have ensured a strong and admirable start to this one as well.
