East Bengal: With matches against big four still left, can EBFC still qualify for ISL play-offs?

East Bengal are currently sitting in 9th position in the Indian Super League table. They have 15 points from 15 matches so far. They still have seven matches to play and four of them are against the top five teams.

Considering their current form, it will be hard for them to earn points in those matches. They will have three more matches where they will have to make the most out of the situation they are in now.

East Bengal's next match is against Chennaiyin FC who are sitting below the Red and Gold Brigade in the table in 10th position. Thereafter they have their next four matches set against Odisha FC, FC Goa, Mohun Bagan, and Kerala Blasters.

In their last two matches, they will face Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC. Considering, they win these two matches and against Chennaiyin FC, that will leave them only nine points richer which could still not be enough.

Hence, they will have to fight their best against the top five as well. Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC have already played two more games than the Red and Gold Brigade. Hence, they will have to grab the opportunity to grab more wins than them.

Coming back to the second half of the ISL 2023-24 season, East Bengal started well as they drew against Mohun Bagan on February 3. However, from there on, in the next four matches, they lost three and won only one.

Even that win came against Hyderabad FC who have not been able to win a single match throughout the entire season. They lost the chance to grab the last of the top six spots when they lost against Jamshedpur FC in their latest game.

Their two other defeats came against Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC. Looking at these results, it's clear that East Bengal will have to find any way to get wins against teams at both the bottom half and the top half of the table.
