East Bengal ISL Playoff Qualification Scenario: How can the Red and Gold get to the Playoffs?

East Bengal's late resurgence in the ISL has still kept them in the race for the playoffs this season.

Although it doesn't guarantee them a place in the next round of the ISL, the Red and Gold Brigade are in the reckoning with a match to go of the regular season, which is a massive positive for them.

This has been a fantastic season for East Bengal compared to their previous ones. Under Carles Cuadrat, East Bengal have won six matches already in the league, their most by far in a season. They have also secured consecutive league wins this season, which happened for the very first time for them in ISL.

The Kolkata club are on a two-game winning streak. They won 4-2 in Kerala over the Kerala Blasters, and then won 2-1 at home against Bengaluru FC. But Cleiton Silva and co. will need another win in their next match to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Can East Bengal Qualify for Playoffs?

East Bengal are currently sitting 7th in the ISL table with 24 points in 21 matches. The top six clubs will advance to the playoffs and Cuadrat's team is just outside of it. And Yes, they can still qualify for playoffs.

East Bengal will have to win their match against Punjab FC and then they can advance to the next stage of the tournament. But their playoff status is not in their own hands as another result will impact their fate.

East Bengal ISL Playoff Qualification Scenario: How can East Bengal Reach the Playoffs?

If East Bengal lose their match against Punjab FC, they will be out of the playoff race. If they draw the match, they will finish on 25 points and that won't be enough for qualification either as Chennaiyin won their match against NEUFC on Tuesday.

If East Bengal win against Punjab FC, they will finish on 27 points. In that scenario, East Bengal can qualify for the playoffs if Chennaiyin loses their final match in the league against FC Goa. Hence the Kolkata giants will have to win their match and hope the Gaurs can beat the Marina Machans.

If East Bengal get a victory and Chennaiyin FC lose their match, they both will be on 27 points at the end of the season. But the Kolkata club have a better head-to-head record over Chennaiyin this season and will qualify for the playoffs as a result of that.
