East Bengal Set to Get New Investor as Haldia Petrochemicals Emerges as Frontrunner

East Bengal are reportedly close to securing a new investor, with Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) emerging as the frontrunner to partner the Kolkata-based club ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season.

According to reports, negotiations between the club and HPL are at an advanced stage. An agreement is expected once the necessary legal formalities are completed, with an official announcement likely in the coming days. However, the proposed arrangement has not yet been formally confirmed by the club.

East Bengal Set to Get New Investor as Haldia Petrochemicals Emerges as Frontrunner

The development comes two months after the Emami Group ended its role as East Bengal's investor and manager on August 25, transferring its shares and associated voting rights back to the club. Emami, however, confirmed that it would continue its association with the Red and Gold as a sponsor.

Who are East Bengal's potential new investors?

Haldia Petrochemicals Limited is a major petrochemical company primarily promoted by The Chatterjee Group (TCG), led by industrialist Purnendu Chatterjee. The West Bengal government also holds an equity stake in the company.

If the reported agreement goes through, HPL's involvement would provide East Bengal with corporate backing as the club looks to maintain its position in Indian football and manage its financial commitments.

The proposed investment would also come at an important time for the club, which is competing in the 2026-27 ISL season and participating in continental football.

What happened after Emami's exit?

Emami's departure as an investor created uncertainty over East Bengal's long-term financial structure, although the company retained its sponsorship association. The club subsequently explored potential investment opportunities as it sought a new partner.

East Bengal have already begun their ISL campaign, opening with a 4-0 victory against Churchill Brothers on October 18. The club will look to build on that start while the reported investor is set to arrive soon.
