East Bengal striker Willis Plaza reveals his ancestors used to live in Kolkata

Bengaluru, Feb 12: With few hours before the first I-League derby this season, between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, the spectators of both the teams look simply frantic.

Emotions are on a high and the burden of expectations predominantly falls on the foreigners of either side.

While Mohun Baga fans will be expecting crowd favourite Sony Norde to excel, East Bengal fans will be hoping their star attackers Willis Plaza and Wedson Anselme to deliver.

Willis Plaza seems to have created extraordinary buzz among the East Bengal fans after having scored goals in almost all the matches for the team in the I-League so far.

Amidst all the extravaganza, Willis Plaza, talking over phone from Siliguri on Saturday, gave an interesting site about himself.

He said: “You journalists do not know I have already spent one day very recently by roaming around the Southern part of Kolkata!"

Why? It is not that Plaza now has fallen in love of the City of Joy. There is another important reason.

The 29-year old striker revealed: “My ancestors lived in this city. Before coming to Kolkata, I had learnt about that from my mother.

"My grandmother also gave me some information about Kolkata when I was only 10 years old. But my grandmother could not specifically tell me where exactly in Kolkata her mother used to live.

"My mother also could inform that our ancestors lived in the Southern part of Kolkata. She had given me only the name of one small church and one graveyard.

"I went out with a couple of friends in Kolkata. But I have not yet found them. I feel I will have to go out for another day."

Incidentally, East Bengal camp received a sudden shock on Saturday during the team's training when Plaza had to go out of the training following a rough tackle from teammate defender Gurvinder Singh.
