East Bengal has suffered their worst-ever start in the Indian Super League (ISL) after their miserable defeat at the hands of Jamshedpur FC on Saturday (October 5).
The Kolkata club fell to a 2-0 loss, which means they have now lost all of their first four matches in the league this season, marking the worst outcome after four matches in their ISL stint.

The Torch Bearers are playing in the ISL since 2020-21 season and they have never qualified for playoffs. Out of the four previous seasons, East Bengal finished 9th thrice and once they finished at the bottom of the table (11th as there were 11 clubs).
But even in those years, the club would have at least a point to show for after the first four matches, but things have turned for worse in this campaign.
East Bengal started their season with a 1-0 defeat in Bengaluru, followed by another away defeat against Kerala Blasters. Their poor run continued at home as well as they lost to FC Goa in Kolkata - which led to Carles Cuadrat's departure from the club. And with Bino George at the helm, the Torch Bearers had no change in luck as they were pinned down by the spirited Jamshedpur outfit.
Rei Tachikawa scored a screamer to open the scoring for Jamshedpur. East Bengal were guilty of squandering many chances and then an own goal from Lalchungnunga sealed their fate.
The Kolkata club currently sit at the bottom of the ISL points table and they will play their next match in the league against the arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant on October 19.
A rapid and drastic turnaround is needed as they head into the international break. With some tough matches set to arrive after a fortnight, the club will have to go back to the drawing board.
