This win places Emami East Bengal at the top of Group A with six points from two games, while Downtown Heroes finished their group matches with one win and two losses, earning three points. Their win against the Indian Air Force was their first in the Durand Cup, achieved in their second appearance.

Emami East Bengal made one change for this game, replacing Jeakson Singh with the speedy winger Vishnu. The Heroes' coach Hilal Parray made two changes, bringing in Shameer for Basit and Iqlak for Calvin Baretto.

East Bengal started strongly, but the Heroes defended well and threatened on counter-attacks. The goals came within 13 minutes, starting with a stunning free-kick by Madih Talal.

Afreen Parray then equalized for the Heroes after a defensive mishap by East Bengal. Saul Crespo restored East Bengal's lead with a penalty after Riyas fouled Vishnu in the box.

The second half saw both teams struggling to score, leading to some tempers flaring and Zahid being sent off in the 80th minute, leaving the Heroes with 10 men. In injury time, a defensive error by Zubair allowed Jesin to score a remarkable goal.

Emami East Bengal now heads into their final group game on August 18, 2024, against arch-rivals and defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant, with high confidence.
