East Bengal were held into a goalless draw against Jamshedpur FC in their first match of the Indian Super League on Monday (September 25) in Kolkata.
With the stalemate, both East Bengal and Jamshedpur are off the mark in the points table as they have one point after one match in the ISL 2023-24 season.

The game kicked off on a high note with both teams battling for dominance in the field. The zealous tussle between East Bengal and Jamshedpur FC paved the way for a chain of free kicks and corners. Despite the numerous chances, neither teams succeeded in scoring.
Players from East Bengal, Mahesh Naorem and Borja Herrera, fiercely attacked but were obstructed by the phenomenal reflexes of Jamshedpur FC's goalkeeper, TP Rehenesh.
On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC manoeuvred deftly thanks to the inspiration drawn from Alen Stevanovic and Jérémy Manzorro. They laid out opportunities for Daniel Chima, with Imran Khan and Nikhil Barla backing them on the wings. East Bengal's defence was challenged multiple times but stood undeterred.
Several yellow cards were issued during the game, indicating how heated a contest it was. Souvik Chakrabarti was warned for East Bengal while Nongdamba Naorem and Pronay Halder were disciplined for Jamshedpur FC.
Without a single goal scored, the first half ended and both teams retreated to their changing rooms. The spirited face-off indicated an equally, if not more, thrilling second half.
As the game resumed post-halftime, the determination and fight remained intact. With every single opportunity created, the defence stood robust and kept the score unaltered.
In the 55th minute, East Bengal brought in Cleiton Silva and Mohamad Rakip to amplify their offense. Conversely, Jamshedpur FC introduced Mohammed Sanan K, Rei Tachikawa, and Semboi Haokip to freshen their charge.
During the last few minutes of the match, both teams were fixated on securing a win. In the 94th minute, Jamshedpur FC's Semboi Haokip's header hit the crossbar off a beautiful cross from Rei Tachikawa.
Tensions ran high during the extra time, culminating in Emil Benny and Saul Crespo receiving yellow cards. The concluding minutes saw a barrage of late opportunities, free kicks, and corners, but the goal remained elusive.
The Red and Gold brigade will be taking on Hyderabad FC next, while Jamshedpur FC will be taking on Kerala Blasters next in Kochi.
