East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan, Kolkata Derby: The highly anticipated East Bengal-Mohun Bagan ISL return derby, scheduled for January 11, 2025 is now surrounded by uncertainty. The venue for the match, Yubabharati Krirangan, could be in jeopardy as the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate has informed Mohun Bagan on Friday, 27th December, the technical home side of the fixture.
The Police commissionerate said that they will be unable to provide adequate security at the stadium due to heightened surveillance in the region.

With the Ganga Sagar area under increased monitoring, the administration has been forced to redirect police resources. Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee recently highlighted the need for tighter security measures, especially with the Ganga Sagar Mela taking place from January 8 to 17, which will see additional police forces deployed throughout the region.
Babughat Transit Point will also experience enhanced security during this period. As a result of these constraints, the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate has notified Mohun Bagan that securing the Yubabharati stadium for the derby will not be possible.
Two options are currently being considered. First, the match date may be rescheduled, which could result in the postponement of the ISL return derby. Alternatively, the derby could be moved to another venue on January 11, away from Yubabharati. This shift could impact gate sales for the Mariners, especially if the match is relocated outside Kolkata. Given the circumstances, Mohun Bagan may opt to change the date to ensure the event goes ahead smoothly. A final decision on the derby's future will likely be made after discussions with Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL).
Both the Kolkata giants are going through contrasting campaigns in the ongoing ISL season. Mohun Bagan Super Giant, the defending League Shield champions are leading the standings with 29 points from 13 matches, while East Bengal are placed 11th with 13 points from 12 matches. In the first-leg derby of the season, Mohun Bagan triumphed their rivals by 2-0 back in October.
