How ISL Ruling for JFC vs MCFC will Impact the fate of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan?

The fiasco in Friday's ISL match between Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City FC is yet to find a conclusion.

The Jamshedpur FC side failed to keep seven Indian players on the pitch during their 1-1 draw against the Islanders. After Daniel Chima Chukwu's Red Card, Imran Khan was replaced by Alen Stevanovic, which meant there were only six Indian players on the pitch despite no Indian player being sent off.

According to the ISL rule, this is an offence and Mumbai City complained to the ISL committee against the Red Miners. Although we are yet to know an official verdict, the notion tilts the decision towards the Islanders, as Petr Kratky's men may be handed all three points.

East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan

Although it will be a major boost and blow for Mumbai and Jamshedpur respectively, the ISL ruling also means a lot to Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The two bitter rivals are going head to head in the Kolkata Derby on Sunday, but a verdict can make an impact on their seasons as well.

If the Current Points System stands

Mumbai City will be on 36 points in 18 matches, which means the Mariners can get to 36 points in their 17 games if they win on Sunday. That will give Mohun Bagan a major boost as they will be level on points with the Islanders and Odisha FC at the summit of the table, with a game still in hand.

For East Bengal, their equation is with Jamshedpur FC, who are currently 7th in the table with 21 points in 19 matches. East Bengal are currently 10th in the table with 18 points in 18 matches and can only match the Red Miners if they win in the Kolkata Derby.

If the ISL Ruling goes in Favour of Mumbai City

The decision would mean two poles for Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. Mohun Bagan then will have to win their game in hand to get ahead of Mumbai City as the Islanders would be on 38 points in 18 matches if the decision goes in their favour.

For East Bengal, their playoff hopes would get some wind in the sail as a win against Mohun Bagan would take them ahead of Jamshedpur to the 7th spot in the table (if decision goes against JFC, they will be on 20 points in 18 matches). Hyderabad FC have already done a huge favour to the Red and Gold Brigade by winning their first league match of the season against Chennaiyin on Saturday, and the Lal-Holud supporters would be hoping for a ruling in favour for Mumbai City to make their job a bit easier.
