The Kolkata Derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant are facing fresh issues as the clash between two Kolkata giants is likely to be cancelled.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant were set to lock horns with arch-rivals East Bengal on the coming Sunday (March 10) in a crucial ISL match.

The two teams are currently in the mix of different aspirations in their ongoing ISL season. Mohun Bagan are currently chasing after the ISL shield title while East Bengal are looking to stamp their authority and make their first-ever ISL playoff appearance this season.
The first league clash between the two teams ended in a stalemate and it was all boiling up for the upcoming clash, which was also going to be the final encounter between the two teams this season.
The match was scheduled to be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on March 10, but it is facing the eerie eyes of cancellation now. MyKhel understands that the iconic clash between the two clubs has now been cancelled and will be conducted on a different day.
On March 10, the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee called for a political rally and meeting in Kolkata, which would mean a huge number of police force duties at the meeting places.
The Kolkata Derby was supposed to be on the same day but conducting both high-profile events on the same day is beyond capacity for the Kolkata Police, who have confirmed their inability to do so. This has led to the postponement of the football match on the day.
According to our understanding, ISL has now made a request to the authorities to conduct the match either on March 9(Saturday) or March 11 (Monday). If the approval comes, we may see the match getting shifted to one of these days.
But the match is likely to be on March 11 due to East Bengal's prior involvement in the ISL. The Red and Gold Brigade are playing FC Goa in the West Coast on Wednesday (March 6). Hence it will be a difficult task for them to make the journey home and play a match within the next 60 hours.
Also, due to the political gathering, there will be thousands of people coming across the state to Kolkata and that may require enhanced security on March 9, which is also a reason why the rescheduled match may be held on the day after the original date.
There is also another speculation that the Kolkata Derby may get shifted to Bhubaneswar on the given day. No concrete solution of this current conundrum has arrived yet, and we hope clearer scenario will unravel in coming days.
