ISL 2023-24, East Bengal vs NorthEast United: East Bengal will return to home for the first time in a month as they host NorthEast United at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharti Krirangan or the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Monday (December 4).
East Bengal suffered a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC at Marina Arena last week as a late goal by Ninthoinganba Meetei levelled the score for the hosts following a defensive error by Jose Pardo late in the game. Otherwise, an own goal by Ayush Adhikari in the first half seemed enough at one stage.

East Bengal vs NorthEast United: Match Timings
Location: Kolkata
Stadium: Salt Lake Stadium
Date: December 4, 2023
Kick-off: 8:00 PM IST
This will be the 7th encounter between the two sides in the Indian Super League with the last match ending an entertaning 3-3 at the same venue back in February last season. EBFC's Brazilian forward Cleiton Silva scored a brace in the game and is in fine form this season as well while Parthib Gogoi is among the remaining players from the last season, who scored in the fixture last season.
East Bengal did, however, beat NorthEast United last season, when they beat the Guwahat-based club at home 3-1 with Cleiton Silva finding the goal in that victory as well. This was also East Bengal's first-ever victory over NorthEast United in the Indian Super League.

With one victory in six games thus far, Carles Cuadrat's team is four points out of ninth place, where playoff spots are at stake. If the team doesn't improve in the final month of the year, they risk having another lackluster campaign. It does not get any easier for the Kolkata giants, who have only lost once in the ISL, when playoff contender NorthEast United visits Salt Lake Stadium next.
But East Bengal will remember their incredible comeback in this match, which took place here in the Durand Cup semifinal between the two teams. After coming back from a two-goal deficit in the second half to tie the game at two, East Bengal advanced to the championship game on penalties. It was an exciting game to watch on the field.
Unfortunately, incidents of racism and violence directed towards the away support in the stands overshadowed the game. Even though recent ISL results will contest that, things are less likely to heat up this time around between two teams that are in opposing forms.
Even though NorthEast United has only won twice so far this season, they have lost fewer games than the home team-three to be exact. If the Highlanders win, they could finish in the top four, which would secure them the final playoff qualifying spot.
