East Bengal will look to continue their new-gained winning momentum as they take on Wari AC in their sixth Group B match of the Calcutta Football League 2023 at the East Bengal Ground in Kolkata on Monday (July 31, 2023).
East Bengal are currently in a good position as the last-match 5-1 win over Eastern Railway put them second on the table with 11 points (three wins, two draws) while Bhawanipore are at the top with back-to-back five wins (15 points). There isn't much breathing space for East Bengal at second with George Telegraph (10), Aryan, and Calcutta Customs (9 points each) right behind.
Unheralded names like Dip Saha, Avishek Kunjam, Kush Chhetry, Bunando Singh, and Aman CK among others have prospered well during the CFL 2023 as East Bengal fielded their youth team with junior head coach Bino George in charge.
The record 39-time champions were held for a draw by Rainbow AC in their first game but the side reacted well by winning their next two matches in a commanding fashion against West Bengal Police (4-2), Kidderpore (2-0).
However, the momentum was soon halted by BSS Sporting, who held the Kolkata Giants for a 1-1 draw as the Behala-based side scored a 98th-minute equaliser to leave the East Bengal youngsters with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Wari AC's CFL campaign, on the other hand, is going downhill as the side failed to win their last three games after winning the opening match against BSS Sporting. The club is currently eighth on the table with four points as they lost to Bhawanipore (1-3) and Calcutta Customs (0-1) while holding George Telegraph for a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile the senior team has kicked-off their preseason too as they gear up for the upcoming Durand Cup 2023 with arch-rivals Mohun Bagan clubbed in the same group with Bangladesh Army.
