East Bengal midfielder Saul Crespo was sent to Spain after he sustained a serious injury in the Kolkata derby earlier this month. An early assessment of the injury dictated that he could miss the rest of the season.
However, as per the latest update from the club, Crespo has landed in Kolkata and is currently in rehab. However, looking at his current condition, he is still in no way ready to take to the field against Chennaiyin FC.

Saul Crespo is one of the best midfielders in the current East Bengal squad. They lost him due to a serious injury to his thigh in the first match after returning from the month-long international break in January.
He sustained this injury against Mohun Bagan on February 3. He was taken off only 18 minutes into the match. Early MRI scans after the injury caused a scare that he could be out for the rest of the season.
He was sent to Spain for his recovery process. While he was there, there was already news of the possibility of him coming back to Kolkata before the end of the season and beginning his rehab here.
As per the club's announcement on Saturday, Crespo is already back in Kolkata and has started his rehab. It's still unknown his much time it'll take him to fully recover. The rehab will surely take some time.
Even if he recovers, it will take him time to start training fully with the first team. Hence, there is no chance that he will feature in the red and gold jersey on Monday against Chennaiyin FC.
East Bengal have won only one in five matches since coming back to the second half of the ISL 2023-24 season. If they want to qualify for the Indian Super League play-offs this season, they need to win more and Crespo can help that cause.
