Edu set to leave Arsenal shockingly without proper explanation

By MyKhel Staff

Arsenal sporting director Edu has decided to leave the club shockingly, as per reports in England.

A report from Sky Sports suggests Edu is likely to leave the Gunners with immediate effect, a development which has emerged in the past week.

His exit comes as a surprise, especially given his recent return from Brazil where he was attending to personal matters. Edu's tenure at Arsenal has been marked by a close partnership with the team's manager, Mikel Arteta, with whom he has been instrumental in steering the club towards becoming contenders for the title.

Edu's role within Arsenal saw significant achievements, most notably after he stepped into the position of the club's first-ever sporting director in November 2022, having initially joined as technical director in July 2019.

During his time, Edu was pivotal in the acquisition of key players such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice. He also played a crucial role in facilitating the departures of high-profile players including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil.

It has come to light that Edu's decision to step down might be influenced by opportunities outside of Arsenal. Reports suggest he is being considered for a position within Evangelos Marinakis' network of football clubs, which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Rio Ave, with plans to expand further in Europe. The specifics of whether this prospect played a role in Edu's resignation remain uncertain.

It has come as a big blow for the North London club, who were hoping for a longer tenure with the Brazilian. Edu was a player for Arsenal as well, playing 127 times for the Gunners in his five-year stint as a player. He was also part of the Invincibles squad under Arsene Wenger in 2003-04 season.
