Jonas Eidevall, reflecting on his time with Arsenal, expressed no regrets about his departure or the decision regarding Vivianne Miedema's contract. Eidevall joined Arsenal in 2021 after a successful stint at Rosengard. During his tenure, he led the team to three consecutive top-three finishes in the Women's Super League and secured two League Cup titles against Chelsea in 2023 and 2024.
Despite these achievements, the start of the current season was challenging for Arsenal. The team managed only four wins in their first nine matches across all competitions, with just one victory in the Women's Super League. Eidevall's final match was a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Emirates Stadium, following a heavy 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The decision not to renew Miedema's contract sparked discontent among Arsenal fans. Miedema had been instrumental in Arsenal's success, scoring 125 goals and providing 50 assists in 172 appearances before moving to Manchester City. Eidevall explained that the choice was between extending Miedema's contract or signing Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona on a free transfer.
Eidevall stated, "I don't. I think you always take the best decisions as you can make for the club at that point with the information that you know." He emphasized that decisions were made for the club's benefit rather than popularity. However, he acknowledged that such decisions can lead to strained relationships with supporters when results do not follow.
After leaving Arsenal, Eidevall took over as manager of San Diego Wave in January, succeeding Casey Stoney. He was drawn to the long-term vision of the Californian club and the competitive nature of the NWSL. Despite losing key players Naomi Girma to Chelsea and Alex Morgan to retirement, Eidevall remains optimistic about reaching the playoffs.
"It feels like a complete rebuild to be honest," Eidevall remarked about his new role. He sees this transition as both a challenge and an opportunity for growth within the team.
Eidevall reflected on his departure from Arsenal by saying, "I thought the easiest quick fix in this moment here now is for me to step away." He described it as an extremely tough decision due to his personal and professional ties with Arsenal.
