El Clasico off-field: Spanish rivals rally for Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet

Madrid, Feb 26: As intense, the battle is on the field for La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, it gets heated up in summer with the transfer season as well. With both teams wanting to sign some of world’s best, they often set eyes on the same player.

Dani Ceballos, Andre Gomes, and Neymar are some instances when both teams approached to sign the future superstars.

Something similar is cooking up with the case of Sevilla’s French defender Clement Lenglet. Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to collide once again in the transfer market to sign the 22-year-old from Sevilla.

At such a young age, Clement carries huge potential and is tipped to be a quality player for the ranks of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

To add to his potential, he was brought in by Sevilla’s ex-Sporting Director Monchi, who is currently at Italian outfit AS Roma.

Monchi is considered to be one of the best when it comes to assessing young talents. His signings led to Sevilla winning the Europa League for a record three consecutive times from 2014-16.

While both clubs are ready to trigger his €30mn release clause, Barcelona are currently ahead as they are ready to offer Aleix Vidal in the deal as well. Vidal has not been a regular at the team sheet and Barca are looking to offload him. Sevilla fit their choice as current manager Montella hunts for a wide man role that suits Vida’s style of play.

Real Madrid’s rumours of a possible major overhaul in the summer will see the club offering good bonuses to Lenglet in an attempt to lure him at the Spanish capital. Lenglet has been a regular in the team so far, raking up 37 appearances for Sevilla in this campaign.
