Manchester United's manager, Marc Skinner, expressed his satisfaction with Ella Toone's outstanding display as the team secured a 3-0 victory over Brighton in the Women's Super League. Toone opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, followed by goals from Hinata Miyazawa and Celin Bizet. This win propelled United to second place in the WSL standings, trailing Chelsea by seven points.
The Red Devils dominated the game from start to finish, registering 21 shots with eight on target and generating an expected goals (xG) value of 2.72. In contrast, Brighton failed to challenge Manchester United's goalkeeper, Phallon Tullis-Joyce. Toone has now contributed to seven goals against Brighton, with five goals and two assists, continuing her impressive form after a hat-trick against Manchester City.

"She's scoring goals and smiling, showing that love for the game," Skinner said about Toone. "It's good for football, and it's good for Ella and Manchester United. She's playing with freedom, but I want her to keep that - this is her pitch."
Despite their strong performance, Manchester United faces a tough challenge in the title race. According to Opta's supercomputer, they have only a 0.4% chance of clinching the WSL title, while Chelsea remains unbeaten and holds a commanding 98.8% probability of winning.
United has now achieved four consecutive league victories, maintaining clean sheets in three of those matches. Skinner is eager to build on this momentum: "We got exactly what we wanted - three points and high energy," he stated. "I wanted us to be a bit more ruthless first half with more goals, but I'm really happy."
Skinner praised both individual performances and the team's collective effort: "There were some standout individual performances, but as a collective really good too. We're a team." He emphasised the importance of competition within the squad: "We have high competition, and I want players who come in to make a real difference."
The manager aims to maintain a balance between safety and ambition: "I want us to keep in this real safe space but also try to push on." As Manchester United continues its campaign in the Women's Super League, maintaining this balance will be crucial for their success.
