Harvey Elliott Evaluates His Liverpool Future While Pursuing England's World Cup Goals

Harvey Elliott is contemplating his future at Liverpool as he targets a spot in England's 2026 World Cup squad. Despite his love for the club, he acknowledges the need to prioritise his career ambitions.

Harvey Elliott is contemplating his future with Liverpool as he aims to secure a spot in England's 2026 World Cup team. Last season, he started only twice in the Premier League and made 18 appearances under Arne Slot, contributing to Liverpool's 20th league title. Despite scoring three goals in five Champions League matches, he started just once, including netting the winner against Paris Saint-Germain.

Elliott played a significant role in England's Under-21 Euros victory, scoring five goals in six games. His performance included a brace against the Netherlands and the opening goal in the final against Germany. The 22-year-old realises that to join Thomas Tuchel's senior squad next year, he might need to reconsider his future at Liverpool.

Elliott Considers Liverpool Future for World Cup

Liverpool has strengthened its squad with notable signings like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike in attack. They are also linked with Alexander Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season. Isak is reportedly exploring a transfer from Newcastle United, with Al-Hilal also showing interest.

Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool's captain, emphasised the team's focus on self-improvement and securing another league title. "We've made great additions to the team so far," Van Dijk stated. "It's all down to hard work and focusing on ourselves. We're all in this together."

Elliott expressed his love for Liverpool but acknowledged his need for personal growth and ambition. "If I had my way, I'd be at Liverpool for the rest of my career," Elliott told The Anfield Wrap. "I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what's best for me."

The Reds' recent signings have added depth to their attacking options. Hugo Ekitike has joined the squad, and Van Dijk welcomed him by saying, "It is good to have him here." He advised Ekitike that hard work is essential for making an impact at Liverpool.

Elliott remains focused on his ambitions of playing in the World Cup while considering what is best for his career. His decision will likely depend on opportunities for regular first-team football as he seeks to impress national selectors.
