Emerson Royal has returned to Brazil, joining Flamengo after a brief stint with AC Milan. He joined Milan from Tottenham Hotspur last year for a reported fee of 15 million plus 2 million in add-ons. During his time in Italy, Emerson played 17 Serie A matches, starting in 16 of them. Unfortunately, Milan finished eighth and missed out on European competition.
Most of Emerson's appearances were under Paulo Fonseca. A calf injury kept him out for much of Sergio Conceição's five-month tenure. Kyle Walker was brought in on loan from Manchester City to fill the right-back position during this period. Massimiliano Allegri, upon returning as Milan's coach, did not include Emerson in his plans.

Emerson has now signed a contract with Flamengo until 2028. The Rio de Janeiro club will reportedly pay 9 million for the 26-year-old defender. Flamengo reached the last 16 of the Club World Cup before being defeated by Bayern Munich. Emerson expressed his excitement about joining Flamengo on social media.
Before moving to Europe, Emerson began his professional career in Brazil with Ponte Preta and Atletico Mineiro. He then joined Barcelona, which led to two loan spells at Real Betis. His transfer to Flamengo has allowed the club to sell another right-back, Wesley, who is set to join Roma.
Wesley arrived in Rome for a medical examination on Sunday ahead of finalising a 30 million transfer deal. This move marks another chapter in Emerson's career as he returns to Brazilian football with high expectations at Flamengo.
