Emma Hayes' unbeaten streak as the United States head coach continued with a 2-1 victory over Australia in Group B. Hayes, who took charge of the USWNT in May, has secured six wins out of seven matches, conceding only twice. The USA and Spain are the only teams to have won all their games at the Paris Olympics so far, boosting their confidence for the knockout stages.
Trinity Rodman's second goal of the tournament, scored two minutes before half-time, set the USA on their way. Korbin Albert's 77th-minute strike made her the youngest substitute scorer for the USA at the Olympics since Mallory Swanson in 2016 against Colombia. Although Alanna Kennedy's late goal reduced the margin, it did not overshadow an otherwise dominant performance by the United States.

The United States team displayed dominance from start to finish, accumulating an expected goals (xG) of 2.82 from 21 shots compared to Australia's 0.46. They also controlled 71.7% of possession throughout the match. The USA will now face Japan in the quarter-finals, while Australia awaits to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
In another Group B match, Germany secured their place in the knockout stages with a convincing 4-1 win over Zambia. Lea Schuller opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed by Klara Buhl's goal shortly after halftime. Zambia captain Barbra Banda scored her fourth goal of the tournament two minutes later but Schuller and Elisa Sen added further goals to seal second place in Group B.
Germany's victory sets up a meeting with the runners-up of Group A, which could be either Colombia, France, Canada or New Zealand. This result confirms Germany's strong position heading into the next phase of the competition.
