Emmanuel Agbadou has joined Wolves as Vitor Pereira's first signing, moving from Reims in Ligue 1. The Ivory Coast international has agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract, with an optional extra year, for a fee of £16.6 million. This acquisition strengthens Wolves' defence, which has struggled this season, conceding 45 goals, the most in the Premier League.
Agbadou's performance at Reims was impressive during the first half of the season. He led his team in blocks with 13 and completed 805 passes, more than any other player on his team. His defensive skills were further highlighted by winning 17 tackles, second only to Valentin Atangana Edoa's 24 for Reims. Additionally, he succeeded in 18 out of 31 aerial duels.

Wolves have been actively seeking defensive reinforcements after selling Max Kilman to West Ham and losing Yerson Mosquera to a knee injury that ended his season early. Agbadou's arrival is timely as the club aims to bolster their backline amidst these challenges.
Matt Hobbs, Wolves' sporting director, expressed enthusiasm about Agbadou's signing. "Emmanuel's a winner and he's driven," said Hobbs. "After the journey he's had, he's still unbelievably hungry. He's the type of player the Wolves fans should love because you're going to get absolutely everything he's got."
Pereira prioritised adding Agbadou quickly due to the busy January schedule. "When Vitor came in, it was the first conversation we had," Hobbs noted. "There are so many games in January, so you can't afford to waste a month." The club is eager for Agbadou to make an immediate impact.
The new signing might debut against Bristol City in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. Following that match, Wolves will face Newcastle United next week, providing further opportunities for Agbadou to showcase his skills.
This strategic move by Wolves reflects their commitment to strengthening their squad and addressing defensive vulnerabilities as they navigate a challenging Premier League season.
