England Secures Euro 2025 Final Spot With Dramatic 2-1 Victory Over Italy

In a thrilling Euro 2025 semi-final, England overcame Italy with a late comeback, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang. This victory marks England's third consecutive final appearance under Sarina Wiegman.

Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang emerged as pivotal substitutes, propelling England to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Italy, securing their place in the Euro 2025 final. Despite Italy's early lead through Barbara Bonansea's first-half goal, Agyemang equalised during the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time. Kelly then capitalised on a rebound after her penalty was saved, setting up a final clash against either Spain or Germany.

England initially controlled possession but fell behind in the 33rd minute. Sofia Cantore and Arianna Caruso combined effectively, allowing Bonansea to score past Hannah Hampton. Lauren James nearly equalised but was thwarted by Laura Giuliani's save. Unfortunately, James did not return for the second half due to an injury.

England Beats Italy to Reach Euro Final

As England intensified their efforts in the second half, Lauren Hemp's header narrowly missed. Meanwhile, Hampton remained vigilant against Italy's counterattacks. Italy's defence held firm until Lucy Bronze's header was cleared by Lucia Di Guglielmo. However, in stoppage time, Giuliani could only deflect Hemp's cross, allowing Agyemang to score and ignite celebrations.

During extra time, Agyemang hit the crossbar with a lob before Emma Severini fouled Beth Mead in the box. Referee Ivana Martincic awarded a penalty. Although Giuliani saved Kelly's initial attempt, Kelly converted the rebound to secure England's dramatic win under Sarina Wiegman's leadership.

England had previously staged a late comeback against Sweden in the quarter-finals. Agyemang's equaliser against Italy came at 95 minutes and one second—England’s latest non-extra-time goal at the Women's Euros since 2013. Kelly’s decisive goal arrived at 118 minutes and 53 seconds, marking it as the latest ever scored in Women’s Euros history.

Sarina Wiegman's Milestone Achievement

This victory marked Sarina Wiegman's 100th win as an international manager—48 with England and 52 with the Netherlands. Under her guidance, England has reached the finals of all three major tournaments they participated in: Euros and World Cup.
