England's Noni Madueke Confident Of Improvement Under Thomas Tuchel After Narrow Win Against Andorra

Following a lacklustre victory over Andorra, Noni Madueke shares his belief in England's potential for improvement under Thomas Tuchel. Despite the scoreline, he highlights positive aspects of their performance.

England's recent 1-0 win over Andorra left players aware of the need for improvement, but winger Noni Madueke is confident in their progress under Thomas Tuchel. Harry Kane's goal in the 50th minute marked his 450th career goal, securing England's third consecutive victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Despite the win, England's performance against the world's 173rd-ranked team was not their best.

The Three Lions have achieved five consecutive wins without conceding a goal, a feat last accomplished in 1982. Tuchel is the first England manager to start with three clean-sheet victories. Madueke, who assisted Kane's decisive goal, acknowledges that expectations are high but sees promise in Tuchel's early tenure. "We haven't lost yet, we haven't conceded yet. There are grounds for optimism," Madueke told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Madueke Optimistic About England's Future Under Tuchel

Madueke expressed satisfaction with his contribution to the game, stating, "My job is to create and score goals. I was able to create one today, so I'm pleased." He also acknowledged that while the scoreline wasn't ideal, there were positive aspects to take from the performance. "It's not all doom and gloom," he added.

When asked about Tuchel's coaching style, Madueke described him as intense and clear about his expectations. "He has high standards. He doesn't allow anyone to drop under them," Madueke said. This approach is seen as beneficial for England's development.

England dominated the match with 20 shots, hitting the target ten times, while Andorra managed only four shots without hitting the target. The expected goals (xG) metric favoured England at 3.35 compared to Andorra's 0.3. Tuchel highlighted this as a learning opportunity, noting areas for improvement despite a strong start.

Tuchel reflected on the match: "The last half an hour I did not like at all. Everything is a learning." He emphasised that they need to be more precise and improve their finishing quality. "It surprised me because we started well," he added.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Challenges

Tuchel acknowledged room for growth in both his coaching and the team's performance: "It always takes two to tango and we need to do better on Tuesday." He stressed there are no excuses for lacking aggression in duels and recognised that improvements are necessary.

England will face Senegal next Tuesday in a friendly at City Ground. This match provides another opportunity for Tuchel and his squad to refine their strategies and address areas needing attention.

The journey under Tuchel has begun positively with promising results but also highlights areas requiring enhancement for future success on the international stage.
