England's Nations League Squad Features Stanway, Greenwood, And Hemp Ahead Of Key Matches

England's Nations League squad includes Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Lauren Hemp as they prepare for matches against Portugal and Spain. This marks a significant boost for the team ahead of their Women's Euros defence.

England's women's football team has received a significant boost with the return of three key players for their upcoming Nations League matches. Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Lauren Hemp have been recalled to Sarina Wiegman's squad for games against Portugal and Spain. However, Lauren James is absent as she continues to recover from a hamstring injury that sidelined her at the end of the Women's Super League season.

Bayern Munich's Georgia Stanway, who has 75 caps for England, returns after recovering from a lateral collateral ligament tear that kept her out since January. Lauren Hemp, despite knee surgery last November, ended the WSL season as the top assist maker with eight assists. Manchester City's captain Alex Greenwood also makes her comeback after a knee injury sustained during a Champions League match in December.

England's Key Players Return for Nations League

The squad sees Ella Morris earning her first senior call-up following impressive performances with Tottenham and England's Under-23s. Michelle Agyemang retains her spot after scoring just 41 seconds into her debut against Belgium in April. Aston Villa's Missy Bo Kearns is also recalled, while Lucy Parker, Millie Turner, and Maisie Symonds are not included this time.

England currently sits second in Group A3 of the Nations League, trailing Spain by two points after four matches. The full squad includes Mary Earps (Paris Saint-Germain), Hannah Hampton (Chelsea), Khiara Keating (Manchester City), Anna Moorhouse (Orlando Pride); Millie Bright (Chelsea), Lucy Bronze (Chelsea), Jess Carter (Gotham FC), Niamh Charles (Chelsea), Alex Greenwood (Manchester City), Maya le Tissier (Manchester United), Esme Morgan (Washington Spirit), Ella Morris (Tottenham), Leah Williamson (Arsenal).

In midfield and attack, Grace Clinton (Manchester United), Missy Bo Kearns (Aston Villa), Fran Kirby (Brighton), Jess Park (Manchester City), Georgia Stanway (Bayern Munich), Ella Toone (Manchester United), Keira Walsh (Chelsea); Michelle Agyemang (Brighton, on loan from Arsenal), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Lauren Hemp (Manchester City), Chloe Kelly (Arsenal, on loan from Manchester City), Beth Mead (Arsenal), Nikita Parris (Brighton), Alessia Russo (Arsenal) complete the lineup.

Sarina Wiegman expressed excitement about facing Portugal and Spain again. "These are another two important games for us in a big year," she said. "Naturally, we are preparing for the summer ahead. We saw in February that both Portugal and Spain will provide a big challenge and that excites us."

Wiegman emphasised focusing on immediate goals while preparing for future challenges: "These are the levels we need to compete against to make sure we are the best possible version of ourselves on 5 July when our Euro begins." Ending the Nations League campaign strongly remains a priority for England as they gear up for their Euros defence this summer.
