English Premier League 2016/17: Team news and predicted lineup of Manchester City against Sunderland

Manchester, August 13: English Premier League 2016/17 is all set to kick-start its campaign today (August 13). The opening day features some very exciting clashes as reigning champions Leicester City takes the field in the opening day against Hull City. [EPL 2016/17: Full schedule for the month of August]

The headlining match of the day features a new looked Manchester City side locking horns against minnows Sunderland.

Manchester City's players celebrate after being crowned Champions in 2013/14 season

Former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has taken over at the club as their new manager and has already made several additions into the existing squad.

Players like Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and most recently John Stones have been brought into the squad to strengthen the side.

The team looks stronger than ever and with a tactical mastermind like Pep Guardiola guiding them, Manchester City are serious title contenders.

Team News

English centre back John Stones is likely to start today for Pep's side. Stones became the second most expensive defender in the history after the Cityzens signed from Everton for £47m last week.

Stones will be accompanied by Argentine duo Nicolas Otamendi and Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Newly bought central midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was bought this summer by Pep Guardiola but unfortunately the German midfielder is out with an injury and will not feature in the first game of the season. Gundogan's compatriot, Leroy Sane will also miss the first game due to a hamstring injury.

Good news for Guardiola is that his entire attack force will be in action tonight with Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne.

Squad: Hart, Caballero, Sagna, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Stones, Adarabioyo, Denayer, Mangala, Kolarov, Clichy, Toure, Fernando, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Delph, Navas, De Bruyne, Nasri, Silva, Sterling, Aguero, Nolito, Bony, Iheanacho.

Predicted lineup

Goalkeeper: Willy Caballero

Defenders: Pablo Zabaleta, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Aleksandar Kolarov

Midfielders: Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling

Striker: Sergio Aguero

Formation: 4-3-3

Manchester City's likely 4-3-3 formation

We expect Pep Guardiola to adopt 4-3-3 formation for his Manchester City side with Raheem Sterling and David Silva in the wings and Sergio Aguero upfront.

In the absence of Ilkay Gundogan, Pep's not so favourite Yaya Toure will start along side Fernandinho.

Club captain Vincent Kompany is still suffering from an injury thus, the central defenders will be John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

The only surprise which can be expected is the induction of Argentine custodian Willy Caballero in the starting lineup instead of Joe Hart. Guardiola who is not very fond of the English goalkeeper might give Caballero a chance.
