Liverpool thrashed, Arsenal held, Fulham, Swansea score five

London, Aug 18: The new season of Barclays Premier League witnessed Liverpool being thrashed by West Brom while Arsenal were held to a scoreless draw by Sunderland. Fulham and Swansea City hammered Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers 5-0 respectively while West Ham United beat Aston Villa 1-0. Reading were saved by late penalty as they ended sharing a point against Stoke City.

Premier League Results: Game Week 1 report:

West Brom Albion vs Liverpool 3-0, The Hawthrons.

West brom got off to a flying start against Liverpool as Romelu Lukaku scored on his debut to thrash the Reds 3-0 at the Hawthrons.

Liverpool's nightmare continued as Daniel Agger was sent-off for a foul on Shane Long. Referee Phil Dowd pointed at the spot but Shane Long failed to convert the penalty.

Long was clipped again this time by Martin Skrtel inside the area but striker Peter Odemwingie was given the honours to take the penalty and he made no mistake to slam it past Reina.

Zoltan Gera gave West Brom the lead 2 minutes from half time smashing a half volley past goalkeeper Pepe Reina after Martin Skrtel headed away the corner.

West Ham United vs Aston Villa 1-0, Upton Park

West Ham captain Kevin Nolan scored Hammers only goal as Sam Allardyce's men sealed three points against Aston Villa at Upton Park.

The linesman allowed the goal despite being slightly offside while the Hammers could have gone ahead with Modibo Maiga but the 25-year old failed to find the back of the net.

Fulham vs Norwich City 5-0, Craven Cottage

Mladen Petric scored a brace while Damien Duff, Alexander Kacaniklic and Steve Sidwell got on the scoresheet as Fulham thrashed Norwich City 5-0 at the Craven Cottage.

Winger Duff chipped in a clever shot as the ball spun into the goal. New signing Petric got to the ball first as his header gave the Cottagers a two-goal lead. The No. 10 striker scored a screamer from 35 yards to kill the game off.

Petric was yet again involved in the fourth goal as his cheeky pass found Kacaniklic and Michael Turner put down Hugo Rodallega in the penalty area as Steve Sidwell converted from the spot to make it five.

Queens Park Rangers vs Swansea City 0-5, Loftus Road

On his debut in the Premier League, Miguel Perez Cuesta aka Michu shined for the Welsh club scoring two goals and an assist to thrash Queens Park Rangers at home at Loftus Road.

The Londoners were thrashed 5-0 thanks to Nathan Dyer's brace while winger Scott Sinclair finished off in style with a blazing shot from outside the box.

Arsenal vs Sunderland 0-0, The Emirates

The Gunners were denied by the Black Cats at the Emirates as Arsenal began their campaign without striker Robin van Persie.

Despite having 70 percent of the ball and 22 shots on goal, Arsene Wenger's men failed to find the back of the net. French striker Oliver Giroud missed a glorious chance after putting clear through by playmaker Santi Cazorla.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Niel will be pleased to clinch a point at the Emirates while the Gunners failed to make use of their chances.

Reading vs Stoke City 1-1, Madejski Stadium

Adam Le Fondre's last minute penalty saved Reading from suffering a harsh defeat at the hands of Stoke City, ending in a 1-1 draw.

New signing Gareth McCleary came off the bench and made an immediate impact winning a penalty in the dying minutes. Dean Whitehead was sent-off for a foul on McCleary as Le Fondre converted from the spot to deny Stoke from clinching three points.
