EPL: Can Chelsea maintain top spot in the Premier League?

London, Oct 1: Chelsea still remain unbeaten this season after six games in the new campaign while rivals and other title contenders try to keep up the pace with the Blues.

With only 1 draw so far, manager Roberto Di Matteo's intentions are clear to reclaim the Premier League title. After winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history, owner Roman Abramovich has spent significantly to match big-spending club and reigning champions Manchester City.

Chelsea showed their dominance on Saturday against London rivals Arsenal, beating the Gunners 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

While the Blues continued to top the charts, arch rivals Manchester United dropped points at home, losing to Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea have immense talent in the team with the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar while veterans like John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole continue to play a key role in the middle.

However, Chelsea's billionaire owner Abramovich has declared that players above the age of 30 will be handed a short term contract extension of only 1 year which means Terry, 31, Cole 31 and Lampard, 34, could move out of Stamford Bridge.

But after spending nearly £100 million in the transfer window, Chelsea have reinforcements in case the seniors decide to leave the club.

The only concern would be £50 million striker Fernando Torres' form so far. Replacing legendary forward Didier Drogba was never an easy task for the Spaniard who has scored 10 Premier League goals in 52 appearances. However, Torres, 28, has started all the games this season, scoring three goals in six games.

Chelsea are not yet done with their big spendings. The Blues now eye Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao in the January transfer window.

With their current form - scoring a total of 11 goals and conceding only three, Chelsea are the team to beat this season and clear favourites to win the title.
